Hey guys, as you know, TGC had a lot of footage cut and half of the movie re-edited because of it. Thankfully, some of this footage has started to pour out of the internet tubes. I thought it would be good to post all of that here in one thread.

If you know of any scenes I've missed post below and I'll edit this post.

You know, one of the reasons I miss the ending the most is because they cut Dakota's fiercest line delivery. "I'm not yours! I'll never be yours!"

Bugger. I need to stop obsessing about this.

Seriously... even just little things like Lyra being taken to Bolvangar by the Tarters (as was obviously intended) rather than to Svalbard would have made a huge difference, and a far more satisfying movie.
New Line were working on some seriously misguided logic when they decided to take the scissors to the movie... and cut it and rearrange it almost beyond recognition (by which I mean change it heaps from what Weitz clearly intended)

It ties everything up, and sets the stage for the next movie. As it is, you have basically no clue what it is that Lord Asriel is doing....ugh, i could go on, it's already been said.
New line, you suck.

This is great Mr. Deflok! Thanks a lot! Remember everyone... the ending is all going to be there in Subtle Knife!

I'd really like to see the director's cut with the original story arrangement... JUST to see how it would've been (even without the ending.) I mean we have the alternative version if we want to see that... why not make the original version too! I really, really hope so!!!!

Mr.Deflok, did you get the footage of Lyra falling from the balloon... I didn't see it. I'd also have liked to see them put that beginning scene with that cat, just to connect the cat that Will saw to the one Lyra saw... I thought that would've been cool continuity.

EDIT: Wow, I'm blind... never mind, I see Lyra falling clip. Sheesh, I'm so stupid.

EDIT 2: I refuse to watch the Asriel footage... I want to be surprised. At least I don't want to see it now. Hope this footage is NOT taken down from youtube by New Line.

Not all the footage were in the trailers is it... wait, so all this "extra" footage is just pieced together "cut" footage that were in all the trailers?

For those wanting some further details of how the film was originally made with Bolvangar/Svalbard in the correct order, and with the ending, and other interesting plot details, etc. an essential bit of fan memorabilia is the little "The Golden Compass: The story of the movie" book.

This book summarizes the film (i.e. before the editing) and is lavishly illustrated with images.

The other companion books are similarly opulent and well worth buying too!

Am I the only one that was disappointed when we didn't see Grumman's severed head in that tube thingo? Hahaha that would have been awesome. i can just see all the disgusted scholars and lyra going "show me! show me!"

Yeah but in removing the bit with Grumman's head and lord Boreal entirely they've effectively shot themselves in the foot for the sequels.
