NaNoWriMo
Alright, I don't really have the right to start this board, since the closest I've gotten to participating was last year when I signed up and never wrote a board, but is anyone/has anyone ever participated in National Novel Writing Month? I promise myself I'm going to write at least a page this year, but hopefully I'll sincerly try to get as far as I can. Speak to me!

Check out the site. http://Www.NaNoWriMo.org. The goal is to write 50,000 (!!!) words in the month of November. It's pretty terrifying.

I'm actually required to write a novel in my English class during November for NaNoWriMo; all 50,000 words. I'm feeling slightly intimidated, but excited at the same time...at least it's only a completion grade, because my teacher can't possibly read through 120 horrible novels.

Ooh, I'm tempted. Just found some great inspiration for a story too, though I'm not sure how much plot outlining and such is considered ethical to do before the official start date.
I think if I find out that I can indeed handle actually doing homework and studying for uni in the next few weeks, I'll sign up. And even if I don't, I'll be here as moral support for all of those brave souls who do.

Hey baby, what's your callsign?

A typical page of published fiction has around 35-40 lines of 10-12 words per line, so 350-500 words per page. An A4 sheet of the kind of stuff I write is ~500 words. I woulld expext a 75,000 word novel to come in at 180-200 pp.Aren't there about 700-750 words per page usually? If that's the case it'll probably have to be about 75 pages... Regardless, it's going to be a lot of work. Good luck...about how many pages is 50,000 words?
As for writing speed... 1000 words a day of good stuff is ordinarily a reasonable target. To write at twice that rate is a real challenge!
Good luck, Amy.

Actually, Jez started a thread on the competition October 12, in the Advertise Your Sites section. Is it possible to merge it or something

I'm glad you mentioned that, I was just getting indignant until I got to the bottom of the page. I'm taking part in NaNo for the first time this year. I don't know if I'll manage to make 50,000 but I'll definitely have a go!Actually, Jez started a thread on the competition October 12, in the Advertise Your Sites section. Could be good and I'd do it if I wasn't snowed under until January. Good luck to anyone who has a go at it. If enough people participate from this board you should start a thread to link your stories, if that's how it works, then we coul have aread if we fancy it.

this rings a bell... the only criteria is that the story be 50k words? (well, and well-written, i'd assume)
quite the challenge. too much else to do in the meantime though. i'd rather pick a month with 31 days anyway

Ooh, I might do it. If only Novemeber wasn't such a crap month.
This is a good idea methinks. Though there would have to be quite a few of us participating to make it more fun, and time is a problem. Still, might be fun.If enough people participate from this board you should start a thread to link your stories, if that's how it works, then we coul have aread if we fancy it.

Ah, I was assuming it would be on regular 8 x 11 printer paper...A typical page of published fiction has around 35-40 lines of 10-12 words per line, so 350-500 words per page. I wouldn't assume well-written. Maybe it's just that there's never been an optimistic NaNoWriMo participant as far as I know, but I think with a goal of 50,000 words in just 30 days (plus school and hw (unless NaNo is your homework)) getting just a piece of that novel to not be crap is quite an accomplishment. I mean, anyone who finishes, no matter how good the book is, is amazing. Those who do actually have something they want to continue with can join NaNoEdMo (National Novel Editing Month) in March and NaNoPubYe (National Novel Publishing YEAR) after that.this rings a bell... the only criteria is that the story be 50k words? (well, and well-written, i'd assume)
Now, I must be off to do some homework before November. Sorry for making a new board; I didn't see the other one. merge what you will.
