TBOD: Illustrated?

Postby modernmike0005 » Mon Feb 07, 2005 5:48 am

Do any of you think TBOD is going to be illustrated? If not, would you like it to be illustrated?

Perhaps, but no more so than HDM.

Of course the illustrations make the book more appealing and "interesting", but I'm much more interested on the written part...

I imagine we'll get something similar to Lyra's Oxford.

It'll be pricey, then.

Yes, but no big give-away images of the characters which would spoil the mental images, but I'd like small pictorals like in the first two Books.

PS. Pictorals? Does that word even work there? Should I have just said 'pictures'?

I agree that it's rather hard to see someone elses image published as almost the "right" picture of things in a book...although I gotta say, the map in Lyra's Oxford totally helped me out. I mean, ah, I was like upsidedown and scrambled before...

Some pics would be nice, but maybe only stuff like maps or buildings.
Pictures of the charecters would spoil the mental images you can make from reading the book.

Pourquoi, my dear knight? A general map wouldn't really do anything though, when you have different worlds, etc. What's wrong with fold out maps, damit! Ok, hm. How about the covers? They have images too...anyways, I'm for as much writing as possible.

I wouldn't mind lotr style maps on the pages but a fold out one would just irritate me really... would make it bulkier methinks aussi O.o

Yeah , I agree there, the fold out stuff was really irritating. I think that having photograms would be good. Not of people, but like on Mary's postcard, of landmarks. Even ones in Lyra's world, after all, they could easily do some photoshopping and get something which looked very good. Probably better in black and white I should think though.

More little vignettes from PP, please! But no more angels: he clearly can't draw wings. Actually, I thought all the TSK pics were a little sucky compared to the NL ones.

Wasn't there something about him doing new pics for TAS?

I think it all depends on what format the BOD is going to take, if its a novel then there shouldn't be illustrations but if its going to be one those companion style books then there should be illustrations. At least will get to see some official conceptual art.

Thread necrophilia! Thread necrophilia!
But I agree, a novel should not be illustrated. Maybe the little pictures in the corner of the pages or at the beginning of chapters. No full page drawings though.

I'd like illustrations but not in the place of more prose.

I'd like it to be illustrated like NL, LO and TSK. Not too much pictures but illustrated anyway.
