2006 pessimistic? Tell that to someone who read NL when it first came out and then had to suffer the epic wait for TSK and the even more epic wait for TAS. I'll be surprised if it emerges before 2008.

And realistically (and hopefully - we do want a really good film, right?) the film probably won;t show up before then either. All o' you who keep whining you'll be *gasp* 17 by then, spare a thought for little old me, who read NL nearly ten years ago and is going to be at least 23 by the time I see in in film form.

God don't say that word. Since I dropped out of college everyone has been nagging me to work.

The film is coming out late 2007 or early 2008, Pullman said..
I just finished reading the trilogy, and i'm a bit afraid that i'm not interested in HDM when the book of dust is coming out. I think it'll be ready in 2008 or something. If we're lucky.....

Please don't masacre me for reviving this...

Reading this I was shocked and dismayed. People were talking about TBoD coming out in 2005, and that was 2 years ago, and now (as far as I know) it isn't coming out until 2009! Makes me wonder if it'll ever hit the shelves... *cries*

Course it will... but it's like Thomas Covenant's series, the writer's going to finish the last trilogy in nine years!! I'll be 24... gosh... :? Waiting's horrible... I must busy myself with some other book, or else I'll die of expectation.

It would appear (having just looked around the internet), that a release date hasn't been announced, though i may be wrong, i am just basing that on what i have read, it could be possible that it isn't even finished yet.

yeah, great, a Fender! he should have got either Bluerock or Yamaha - Fender is good for amplifiers but the instruments are rubbish.

well, i say good for amplifiers, i mean brilliant. they even got a red neon under one i use sometimes and it actualy lights up brighter the louder the note. Brilliant!

I don't know, to me the Strat is, with the Les Paul, the iconic gituar and mine is a fantastic instrument. Quick fretboard and lovley weight to it.

I asked Philip Pullman a question out the Book of Dust on a Q and A he did on the BBC website, that must have been a couple of months ago, he said that he was still writing The Book Of Dust (apparently it's going to be a very very big book)
:) I can't think of anything to say here, so I shall just give you a smile :)

Will he ever...

Postby waitingForDust » Mon May 25, 2009 9:54 am

Will we ever see 'The Book of Dust', I'm wondering?
I can't help feeling that Pullman has been seduced by his own daemon - money.
I suspect we'll see the 'green book' about Will's Oxford when he starts to run out of the stuff. I certainly don't begrudge him making a very comfortable living out of his superb writing, but hey, we gave it to him, probably in the hope that he would continue to entertain us...

I wuddn't say his daemon was money, and I wuddn't say that being successful due to the genius of your work means you are greedy or bad. I don't know much about him personally, but I wuddn't cast all THAT judgement on him, now. Ent like he worked for Enron or somethin.

Actually, if he really WAS worried about nuttin but the money, he'd be poppin them babies out like an octomom, now wuddn't he? Be more like the Goosebumps series then..... 8)

Now that you mention it, tho, I DO wonder if he ever mentions what he thought his daemon was.....

In a few places Pullman speculates it would probably be a magpie or a jacdaw - something that collects shiny things into an eccleptic nest, because that represents his writing style.

But didn't understand "eccleptic nest" - what's that please?

Sorry, thats my terrible habit of spelling things wrong because I've only heard the word and not seen it in written form! I meant 'eclectic':

1. selecting or choosing from various sources.
2. made up of what is selected from different sources.
3. not following any one system, as of philosophy, medicine, etc., but selecting and using what are considered the best elements of all systems.
4. noting or pertaining to works of architecture, decoration, landscaping, etc., produced by a certain person or during a certain period, that derive from a wide range of historic styles, the style in each instance often being chosen for its fancied appropriateness to local tradition, local geography, the purpose to be served, or the cultural background of the client.

'Shiny things' was not meant to mean money but interesting ideas.
