Videogame Music

Postby Darragh » Sat Apr 10, 2010 12:59 am

I've been using youtube as a videogame nostalgia tool this evening to listen to some of the music I grew up to in videogames this even so I thought i'd make a thread for people to share their favourites.

Panzer Dragoon Saga. Reminds me of Akira's soundtrack.

The Windwaker. When I hear this song it brings back all the pleasure I had with this game. Almost Every song is immense.

Megaman 2. Hard to top this on the Nes.

Sonic 1. It's THE sonic music for me.

Final Fantasy 6. Has a Zelda feeling to it.

Final Fantasy 8. Epic.

Street Fighter 2. Ryu's theme. Love it.

Super Metroid. Atmospere. It has it.

Duke Nukem 3D. Badass.

Alien Breed 2. It's like Metroid mixed with electronica. Yum.

World of Warcraft. Just fantastic.

Ok, I'm done. :)

only game music i've liked enough to download is the silent hill ones by akira yamaoka. it's like ... real music (rather than nostalgic blippy blips. if you know what i mean).
There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious—makes you so sick at heart—that you can't take part. You can't even passively take part. And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all

Not Youtube, though you can listen to the piece via the download link on the right.
Through the Angles of Space by Mark Vera (or Jouni Airaksinen if you can pronounce things like that). Doesn't matter if you've never played Star Control II/Ur-Quan Masters (though, what's stopping you?). Listen to it anyway. Close your eyes or find a window to look up at the sky while you do.
Hey baby, what's your callsign?

Beyond Good and Evil was probably the biggest cult classic of the decade, and it had a fantastic and rather distinctivesoundtrack to go with its general excellence.
