Okay!Okay! Several things:
1- Mrs. Coulter is not a robot, if she was a robot how the hell would she have a kid?
2-Its probably just sometricky and confusing metaphor that nobody understands except Pullman
3- Somebody said above about metal being dangerous- I agree with this it links to Mrs.Coulter.

Also I would like to add that I read somewhere that Lord Asriel had been coupled with fire somewhere in the
book(s) (I don't know if this is true, I haven't read them in a while so if anyone remembers if there is please say so), and that some metals are melted by fire, so Lord Asriel is fire, Mrs.Coulter is Metal and he 'melts' her (so to speak) and is therefore her 'weakness'. ( I kinda go more with this one as well as the whole danger thing, mainly because of the end on Northern Lights/The Golden Compass.)
