Absolutely stunning! Pan is beautiful! There is so much sincerity and relief in her face. A lovely, lovely piece!

wow, you're a beautiful drawer! The depth and texture is amazing, and the emotional intensity staggering! Perfect soft realism- you can see, clearly, the muscles in Lyra's face and the tensity of her face and neck, and her hair is beautiful. You've really shown the bond between them, and i love the symbolism. well done- a stunningly soft and tender portrayal of their love.

That is NOT Lyra and that is NOT Pan. But that IS a very, very good drawing.
(VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY GOOD DRAWING)

I didn't say they were a bad artist. I think they are are very, very, very good artist, but I can't see that as Lyra.
Oh well... I guess that's the artists interpretation...
Blah: on 11/05/2007
OK unknown, I respect that, but how can you say :"That's not Pan" ?
charlie: on 11/05/2007
incredible.......nothing else to say...simly incredible

I just want to say thank you SO much to all of you. I can't explain how much your comments and compliments mean to me. I feel really honoured by all the positive responses.
I have always felt that this work can only be properly judged by those who know it best. For people who do not know the story, it might be just a girl and her ermine. I tried my best to convey the love and connection between them, so if it stands up to you guys, then I must have done something right!
I agree that a lot of this is up to the artist's interpretation, although I understand that my view of Lyra isn't exactly the majority view, and people might not see it as they pictured it, it is still fine.
This is why I love literature-- it opens a gate of creativity that is constrained only by one's own limits. Every interpretation adds a new dimension, and I always love seeing how other's views can inspire my own.
Thank you so much again for your support!
It has really made my day :)

OMG!!! This is soooooo gorgeous!!!! That is DEFINITELY Pan, unknown, but I agree Lyra's hair could be a bit lighter. I am not complaining though coz this is superbly drawn and has so much feeling and emotion in it!!! You are sooooo talented!!! Also, your Lyra looks a lot like my cousin!!! lol
Congrats once again and please keep up the good work!!!!

this is a great picture. did you use a reference?
Selkie: on 11/11/2007
(I really need to start saving my comments before I lose them)
I have to agree that her hair is too dark, but because I was using charcoal, it was hard to reverse that. I initially pictured her with dark hair, so it didn't bother me.
This is actually probably the first major work where I didn't use a photo reference. The hair was sort of out of my head, and the poses were based on the help of the daughter from a family I stayed with, and from my sister's help in pretending to hold something that wasn't there. I used some reference for Pan's face, but the poses were mainly from what I thought would be natural, although I still find it a bit awkward. The hand was mine, but besides that, it is pretty much from my mind.
Thank you so much again, I can't say how much I appreciate the response! It really means a lot to me.
Thanks again,
~Selkie~

Selkie, this picture is absoultly stunning!! You are AMAZING with charcol, when I use charcol it jjust smudges all the time :( . I understand what you say about doing the hair dark, it's virtually impossible to draw lighter on a white piece of paper. But if anyone is really REALLY bothered about the hair colour (although I'm perfectly fine...I L-O-V-E it the way it is!!) you could do it on black sugar paper with a piece of chalk instead. Your picture is so beautiful, and I love how it looks so real!! And Pan is soooo adorable!!! Did you draw him from your head or did you look at a picture?? AWW LOOK AT HIS DINKY LIL' FEET!!!
Anyways really well done Selkie!! Your work is beautiful!
Have you ever thought of becoming a professional artist??
See ya!!
