I like how it says on Northern Lights 'soon to be The Golden Compass motion picture'

There may, as the philosopher says, be no spoon, although this begs the question of why there is the idea of soup. - Thief Of Time

This would be the first definite sign of marketing, then. The animals on the covers have something of Aslan in them.

Me too, I live in Ireland and the omnibus edition we have is not only a hardback but it's ridiculously big. In fact the American versions of the books are generally better in appearance then then our ones, they’re smaller (pocket size) and the cover art is way better.I'm still waiting for the American omnibus version.
I think thats the case with alot of American edtions of books.

Ooo, I like these covers. I think they capture more of the books than previous ones. However the British hardback ones will always be my favourites. I suspect they'll release a new paperback of Northern Lights closer to the time of the movie with a cover from the film.
