Er... I really don't know... In fact I never thought about it...
But it's such an interesting question...
If people could express what they think.

Its a strange predicament.

All comes down to dæmon physiology.

Imo, they are basically spirits that can take form.
So, I think that they do not need 'feeding' as such because they are mildly like a parasite in that they feed off the host, yet they don't need feeding in the conventional sense.

The general consensus in these parts is that no, they don't need to eat, based on what we've seen from the books. Lyra occasionally gave Pan something to 'nibble on', but never actively provided him with food, implying that he didn't need feeding. The rather fluid physicality of the daemon, being able to alter its size and shape instantly, would seem to support this.

I suppose. if you think about it, you don't need to feed your daemon because we don't need to feed our souls do we?

also, do daemons have normal organs for example a cat daemon. does it have a cat skeleton or is it more like Balthamos when he pretended to be Will's daemon.

i thought of this first, i really did, but i posted it somewhere else entirely... the general agreement was that it depended on the person. as far as dæmon organs, i really honestly have no idea. it makes you really wonder - if they do, they could potentially drown, have a heart defect, or pee themselves from fright. dæmons having organs generally increases the risk factor of life altogether by 100%, wouldn't you think?

Thats true.

But, we need to feed our souls.
We don't feed it conventionally of course, we feed it what we would call the emotions we feel.
That's what the soul does in my opinion. It sorts out what you feel

Well the daemons in Will's world didn't get fed because no one even knew they were there.

if psy's right on that, which i think is probable, then the dæmons in will's world would be percieved as your subconscious by people who didn't know about dæmons. or your imaginary friend, if you've got one.

That would mean that Lyra wouldn't have a sub-conscious then wouldn't it? Strange.

No, but she has a daemon instead! This is going round in circles!

The only thing with dæmons that we seem to be missing is how is it that Lyra's world has dæmons and Will's don't see theirs.

Lyra's sub-conscious if you want to call Pan that, is for all to see, if she chooses. He could jut hide and you wouldn't notice him.
Will's is just hidden all the time, until it's properly awakened to physical form when they visit the land of the dead.

The daemons in our world are inside us so they don't need feeding but in Lyra's world they might, because they are a seperate being (almost)

How do you get the 'Killing Me' smiley?

daemons can bleed, no? I mean, if you stamp on one it doesn't mould around you, you crush it. So some physical functions must be present.
