I absolutely LOVED the movie of the Golden Compass, ending and all. It would be a terrible dissapointment to all the fans if New Line doesn't follow up. Heck, they've got a whole lot more revenue making all three than just one... think of the Trilogy sales, perhaps cutting the budget on the next two shorter, but continuing to do them to make up for this loss! PLEASE! I'm begging you! Lyra was perfect, everything was perfect! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!

But you're forgetting that Phillip Pullman makes baby Jesus cry...I don't think the dear old invisible sky wizard is in a mood to answer your prayer. :P

I would think that well-reasoned fan letters, describing ways that sequels could be made so as to reach a level of epicness and presenting persuasive indicators of commercial viability of sequels, in spite of the lackluster success of GC, would be more effective than praying.

Ah, wasn't I supposed to be working on one of those for the board, Jess?

I think praying to teh Lord will be as effective as trying to reason with New Line but we could give it a shot...

But what i don't get is surely it is more racist by saying that a film would suggest that god coyld be killed, i mean, what harm could a film do?

MAKE THE FILMS, MAKE THE FILMS, MAKE THE FILMS, MAKE THE FILMS, MAKE THE FILMS.

yes you were di. :P bug me and i might collaborate a bit, but really this should be one of those massive fan petition letters where one person writes an eloquent letter, then a million fans sign it.

i never know what you're talking about when you use the word "racist" to describe things that have nothing to do with race...

Apparently New Line were going to make a statement regarding the future of the series in early 2008. TGC is supposed to be performing quite well outside of the US, and the merchandise should bring in a few more bucks too. As much as I'd love to see The Subtle Knife on film I'm afraid that it wouldn't translate very well to film.

I disagree, I think TSK would translate very well into film. In all honesty, I found the first two books to be fairly cinematic to begin with, it's the third one that's going to be a beezy.

or maybe atone?
I'm just hoping for decent domestic numbers, maybe $80 million, and a lot more global.

IMBD isn't trustworthy in these cases. They often post just rumors.
