Funnily enough, I have just returned from Brummigem with three bagsful of things, mostly books book including two little bags each containing a Canadian flag and a maple leaf-shaped sweetie!

Some of the people in our tour group were Canadian.

I overheard them talking with an Aussie about how the monarchy is necessary to keep other English-speaking lands from becoming America 2 (well, that's what the Aussie was saying; I think the Canucks disagreed with him on that particular point).

i think the worry about becoming america 2 is more relevant for canadians, seeing as how we live beside them and whatnot.

if we didn't have the monarchy "present" here, i don't think there'd be that much of a change. we'd still have the u.k. in our history more than it is in the american history, and maybe the governor general would lose her job. and maybe we'd have to find someone else to put on the back of our coins. as significant as the american presence is in canada, i don't think we'd become a second america so easily...

it is quite odd listening to anything in english now because the accent difference is so strong. i was watching canadian idol yesterday, in english, and it took me an absurdly long time to figure out what they were saying cos now i am used to the french accent and it takes a while to remind my mind i actually do know english :P

Just because you are away dosn't mean you can leave full stops and capital letters at home. :P

I demand pictures...you better have a camera with you.

i do. its a sucky old camera, you know, the kind you actually have to get the film developed for instead of just input to computer... merde, i know. and if you want capitals you can add more to your own posts, i refuse to comply with such absurd demands.

The monarchy, or more accurately rule from a mature country, stopped Australia or Canada from becoming Merry-ka II in the sense that their political systems and infrastructures were able to develop. We've all seen that which happened when wolf-child was allowed to form its own country.
