I was digging around in the loft the other day and, as you do, came across some boxes that had come from FW's grandmother's house. Imagine my amazement when I found this old 78 in it. I've transcribed it as best I can, but it still sounds a bit rough. There's no proper label on it, just the word "bubbles" written in wax crayon.

Nobody seems to know if it's really FW's grandmother singing and, if so, where or when it was recorded. Some radio shops used to keep a little recording studio in the back room. The Beatles - or was it the Quarrymen? - made some of their earliest recordings in just such a back room.

Great singing, and not a bad sound quality either.

I've very recently developed a liking to Sgt. Peper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, mainly because I love the weirdness of the lyrics. Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite! is my favourite at the moment.

I didn't know you could make records in a home studio, I thought it needed quite sophisticated equipment. But this is amazing, it sounds so very olden-day and beautiful. Who was Frau Wunderkind's grandmother?

Don't forget that in the olden days records were cut direct-to-disc with no tape or hard disk intervening. Cutting lathes would have been more common back then.

However, in the last few days I've gone over the track and achieved what I modestly believe to be a remarkable feat of remastering. You really can perform miracles with CEDAR!

Restored version of IFBB

FW had two grandmothers, of course. I understand the one who may have performed on the original disc was her maternal grandmother, Daisy Ashford.

Wow, fantastic restoration. Was that from the first version you posted? If so, I've got to get my hands on that software.

Truly beautiful find, also. She sounds remarkably like FW (at least in the last tune you posted) that I wouldn't doubt it was her grandmother for a minute.

I would indeed. Seems a most remarkable restoration. I can't tell you how many times I've thrown out a recording because it was too noisy and I couldn't manage to clean it up.

I used Izotope Vinyl - a VST plugin - hosted on Adobe Audition 2.0. It's a wonderful piece of software, and absolutely free
