The Cat and Will + daemon idea

I just finished reading the whole trilogy for the milionth time, and I had an idea.
In the end of The Amber Spyglass, Seraffina teaches Mary Malone to see her daemon--she has to kind of cross her eyes, get double vision or something.
Well, in the beginning of The Subtle Knife, Will is extremely exhausted and is about to fall over because he is so tired. Then he sees the cat under the hornbeam trees, which leads him to the window.
Now this is just an idea, but what if the cat was Will's daemon? He was really tired and maybe he was dizzy or something and unknowingly saw his daemon? What do you guys think?

Wow, I never thought of it that way...
It could explain why he was able to see Pan, couldn't it?

Well Pan was always visible because he was from Lyra's world, where daemons are always visible. But it is a very interesting thought. The problem is that the cat under the hornbeam trees makes another appearence later when it's being attacked by the kids next to the torre. Will and Lyra had been in Wills Oxford all day, so it couldn't have been that far away.

So it's only people from our world that have to learn how to see their dæmons?

Pan was visible in the first place. People that have invisible daemons would need to learn how to see them.

Why do you think only some societis have visible dæmons and some don't,?

Every world is different, that's why it is a world, not mushed into the others.

the only problem with that theory is that the cat that lead Will through the window was the same one the kids were throwing rocks at. Lyra then picks up the cat withount Will feeling wierd.
But that is be a good theory.

Yeah you're right.
Maybe it was just forshadowing or something?

I think maybe it was...
But what would determine if a world had visible dæmons or not? Would it be something about it's inhabitants? The level of Dust? Or what?

i don't think it's the level of dust. it's probably coincidental, because the majority of the worlds mentioned in the books don't have inhabitants with physical daemons, it's just lyra's world.

If you have an existence containing an infinite number of realities... anything is possible, including physical daemons, and Lyra's world was just one of the masses that developed these. There will have been many other worlds with physical daemons, but either worlds without them are more common, or the unicluster theory (or something similar) has come into play (if you don't know about the unicluster theory, for the love of God please don't ask!
). There won't just be one obvious difference between them anyway.

Well, according to Pullman in "Belief", the rebel angels gave a gift to each world; to Lyra's world, they gave dæmons.

That would definately explain in, even if we don't understand it very well.
I've been thinking though. The dæmons just pop up out of no where when you're born?....or does the mother's dæmon give birth the the child's? It's wierd to think about because we're not attatched to anything like that. What do you guys think?

There's a couple threads about that very topic under the "General Discussion" thing.
