LO: Like the Cover Art?

What does everyone think of the cover art that amazon has for Lyra's Oxford? (
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/03758 ... ZZZZZZ.jpg) I'm guessing that the image on the front is an example of the wood-block illustrations by John Lawrence... it looks pretty good, I think. I'm guessing this is the American cover, since it was amazon.com, not co.uk, but who knows if they'll be different

It's a stunning illustration when taken by itself...won't turn heads in a crowd, but I guess it might not be supposed to be that way.

it's great, though it's not the same as the eric rohman (?) ones. but this is an illustration of oxford, i assume, so it's a completely different atmosphere for the pics.
to see if the uk cover's the same as the american cover, just go to amazon.co.uk.

There was no listing for Lyra's Oxford on the .co.uk site at all.

..so it is. Strange.
It's a nice picture, looks quite grown-up don't you think? I wonder how they'll be marketing this book.

how did they market the trilogy?

Not that vigorously... They had stands of TAS out when it won the Whitbread but I didn't pay much attention to NL and TSK when they came out, so I really couldn't comment.

Thought I might as well post this. Amazon's WAP site also denies the existence of LO (or at least doesn't list it anywhere).

They can deny it all they want, we know it's out there and nothing is going to stop us getting to it..

Or do we? Maybe it's all a marketing ploy. They'll get us down to the bookshops, and then try and sell us some other book.
The marketing of HDM: my interest was first caught by an A3 poster in my local library, when NL first came out. I think publishers only produce posters for books they think will sell well. I worked in an independant bookshop for the Brighton festival last spring, and they had some cardboard-cuttout TAS stuff, but not much. It was marketed more like an adults book would be than a children's book.

I saw a signed poster (by PP of course) for TAS in an Ottakar's and I was this close to...helping myself to it. I probably should have asked if I could buy it off them.

I don't know if I have it different in America, but I like all the art for Lyra's Oxford, including the cover.

To tell you the truth, it reminds me less of HDM, and more like his other mystery books about sally lockhearr.
