daemons and the Dead

What do you think would happen if a daemon made it with their human to the world of the dead? Supposing Lyra after reuniting with Pan went over to the window out of the world of the dead and went back in? How would that affect her personality in there if she stayed? would she still waste away and lose her memory etc and be without hope? (imagine the harpies hadn't agreed to the deal and Lyra had cut out anyway) what effect would having your daemon with you have on being there?

This is a bit of a loophole, but I'd imagine that Pan would be too scared to go through the window, although he wouldn't know why. For whatever reason, I don't think daemons could exist in the world of the dead: if Pan was dragged in there by force, I think he would die and Lyra would be left as if she'd been cut away by the guillotine or - worse - dead.

I found it a bit weird that Lyra and Will didn't lose their bodies, and end up as ghosts, in the process of going there.

yeah I think that you're right, that Pan just couldn't enter the world of the dead. The boatman implied it was an incontrovertible law, like gravity.

Oh, I have my doubts about gravity and evolution and DNA.
