Looking about a month and a half into the future... what do you guys think we should do to celebrate midsummer's day (if anything)? Any ideas?

I still think a mass exodus down to Oxford is by far the most entertaining approach. More so if we were in costume. And especially if we harangued a bemused Phillip Pullman into leading us Pied-Piper style along the way.

We all go to our local park bench and sit down, looking sad?

If the Muslims can manage Macca once in their lifetime I'm sure we can manage to be at Oxford on Midsummer's Day. Or failing that we just all cram ourselves into the chat room and lament about not being there.

But the sraffies will all contrive to be there on different days
Just another reminder needed, I think, that Midsummer Day in England is 24 June and no other.

Are those of the Islamic faith all fans of an over rated scouser then?
Enitharmon's correct - it's the 24th. 21st is the Summer Solstice

We have a Macca Bingo near us...frankly I'd find the temptation to abuse my faith with a gift like that around the corner irresisitible.

Macca? I thought it was Mecca? Or maybe that's just the city or something.

OK, this sounds fun. I wouldn't mind going down to Oxford in Pan furry costumes. Na, sounds fun just wouldn't the gardens be shut at 12 at night? What kind of costumes, our own dæmons or of character dæmons?

I don't think anyone is seriously going to be visiting Oxford Botanic Garden in a furry animal costume... I am prepared to sponsor anyone who does though!

Is anybody actually seriously planning on going? Because I'll go if I've got nothing on.

"Qu Klaani where are you going"
"Just down to Oxford to meet up with a load of people I met on the internet"
"Well be back by 10"
I could get there easily though if I wanted to.

About a half a year too early for me to attend, I'm afraid. Next Midsummer I might be there though. Then we can all go down to the pub later on. I'll buy you all some Australian beer.

Australian beer.
Isnt that an Oxymoron?

I wouldn't describe Australians as being diametrically opposed to beer...

Like with most beers, I'd imagine Australian beer tastes better in the country of origin. That Fosters and XXX import that we get over here tastes like piss because it's travelled 12,000 miles (unless it was brewed within the EU, in which case it doesn't count).
Have you ever tried a Guiness outside of Ireland? It just isn't very nice.

It's hard to get served at 16 in pubs otherwise populated entirely by obese 30-50 year olds in football shirts. That said, I haven't actually tried.
Anyway, the point is, I can't really claim to be very knowledgeable when it comes to beer.

It's funny that because I always have trouble getting served because of the crowds of 18-30 year olds in football shirts!
